Moth Treatment and Control
To treat your moth problem quickly, CALL US NOW ON 01202 604682
South Coast Pest Control will carry out an insecticide spray treatment, to all floor wall junctions, cracks and crevices behind furniture, under furniture and all
accessible areas, carpets included.
South Coast Pest Control uses the Exodus ULV Machine (ultra low volume)- it passes the treatment liquid through a specially designed unit, which generates an airborne mist of fine droplets. These droplets permeate the treated areas and settle out onto surfaces. Seeking out and killing the high-flying moths that could be behind pictures, mirrors and light fittings, this is a very effective treatment.
Moth monitors are placed in every room up high, then checked 4-5 weeks later.
Clothes moths, including the Common Clothes Moth (Tineola bisselliella) and the Case-Bearing Moth (Tinea pellionella), are fabric-damaging pests that can destroy clothing, upholstery, and other textiles. If left untreated, they can cause significant damage to wool, silk, fur, and other natural fibres.
Identifying Clothes Moths
Common Clothes Moth:
- Small, golden or buff-coloured, about 6-8mm long
- Avoids light and prefers dark, undisturbed areas
- Larvae cause fabric damage by feeding on natural fibres
Case-Bearing Clothes Moth:
- Slightly darker, with speckled wings
- Larvae build a protective silken case they carry around
- Found in wardrobes, carpets, and upholstery
Signs of an Infestation
- Small, irregular holes in wool, silk, fur, or upholstery
- Silken webbing or cases attached to fabric
- Tiny, white larvae crawling on clothing or in drawers
- Adult moths flying around dimly lit areas
Treatment & Prevention Strategies
Step 1: Cleaning & Vacuuming
- Vacuum carpets, wardrobes, furniture, and baseboards regularly
- Discard heavily infested clothing or freeze them for 48 hours
- Wash affected clothing in hot water or dry clean to kill larvae and eggs
- Clean out drawers, closets, and storage areas to remove potential larvae
Step 2: Natural & Chemical Treatments
- Diatomaceous Earth: A non-toxic powder that dehydrates larvae when applied to infested areas
- Moth Traps: Sticky pheromone traps that attract and capture adult moths
- Insecticides: Use professional-grade moth sprays in severe infestations(follow safety guidelines
Step 3: Storage & Long-Term Prevention
- Store wool, silk, and fur in airtight containers or garment bags
- Regularly inspect and air out stored clothing
- Keep storage areas dry and well-ventilated to discourage moth activity
